O impacto da pirataria na segurança marítima: o caso somali no século XXI

A pirataria é atualmente uma das principais ameaças à segurança em diferentes espaços marítimos do globo. O presente artigo analisa a pirataria no Corno de África no dealbar do presente século e o modo como influenciou a segurança marítima da região.
As conclusões obtidas mostram que o fenómeno teve origens diversas, evoluiu de forma distinta e exerceu, no período 2008 - 2012, influência decisiva na insegurança marítima no Oceano Índico Ocidental. Afetou relevantes linhas de comunicação marítimas, restringiu a livre passagem de navios, lesou o comércio marítimo internacional e colocou em risco a vida de pessoas ligadas ao mar.
